We had great conditions, but the tailwind wasn't as strong as the day before and most of us took it easy, enjoying the warm weather (the first warm day we have had on this adventure!). It is forecast to reach 90 degrees today under partly cloudy skies.
Once again, straight, flat road that parallels the train tracks on US 54.
We stopped in Hooker, OK. The city name honors local OX ranch foreman John "Hooker" Threlkeld. The town's motto, referring to the negative connotations of its name, is "It's a location, not a vocation". Nonetheless, they sell t-shirts capitalizing on the double entendre. The local team is called the Horny Toads. You can take it from there.
The one other highlight of today's ride was crossing another state line into Kansas.
2:34; 44 miles; 314' climb; 2,271 Calories.

In order to keep everyone moving along through the day, slower riders are released half an hour before the rest. For some reason, this years group has a lot of slower riders. There are only five of us left after the dawn patrol has left - Mike R, Dan, me, Joanne, and Willie. These are the Big Dogs. I'm thinking of joining the dawn patrol.
I'm not sure what the horse has to do with truck parts.
Liberal is home to the Mid-America Air Museum
Your guess is as good as mine!
I assume you picked up Hooker t-shirts for us all...
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got to visit the air museum - pretty amazing.
It would violate my luggage weight limitation and I would forfeit my Dairy Queen gift card. xo
