Blythe, CA to Wickenburg, AZ

It had rained overnight in Blythe but the streets were reasonably dry when we left the hotel this morning.  Back on the shoulder of I-10 and our first state line crossing, into Arizona.  We dutifully sprinkled our Manhattan Beach sand at the base of the State Line sign to assuage the wind fairies.  It may have worked as we had favorable winds finally on most of the ride.  We started off with a 7.5 mile climb and another 10 mile climb until the exit off the freeway to SR 60.  We passed through the little towns of Brenda, Hope, Salome, Wendon, and Aguila on the way into Wickenburg.  I had a problem with too much caffeine intake and took a ride in one of the vans at the third rest stop.

4:18 hours; 67 miles; 2,315' climb; 3,541 Calories.

Hope is a wide place on the road to Wickenburg.  This sign is just out of town and for many years was grammatically incorrect and said "Your now beyond Hope."  They've finally corrected the sign.

Mary and Willie with the desert behind them.  We had leaned all three bikes against the post but it looked like it was going to fall over.

  1. I can't believe they fixed the sign at Hope! -Karen

  2. The fact that the sign has been fixed makes the grammarian in me so happy! The Redondo Peloton (all two of us - me and Phoebe) also had a good ride yesterday in favorable conditions. Cloud cover, slight cool breeze, relatively well-behaved motorists sharing the road - pretty nice. Love the photos - keep them coming. And safe travels today!

  3. I did not even notice the incorrect spelling on that sign. You took a bump. Oh no. Stay safe.

  4. Your comments are producing plenty of LOL near my computer. The images tell as much of a story as your words. I am not familiar with the orange and yellow flower -- gorgeous! MJ

    1. I don't know what the flower is, either. It was pretty, so I took its picture. :)
